Fast.io is designed for seamless collaboration, allowing teams to manage files efficiently while maintaining appropriate levels of access and control. To facilitate this, permissions in Fast.io are structured across different levels: Organizations, Workspaces, and Shares. Spaces such as Organizations and Workspaces have people who are assigned a role, while Shares have specific permissions that determine access.

Roles and Permissions

Owner

Each Organization has a single Owner, who is responsible for managing the entire Organization. Similarly, each Workspace has an Owner who oversees that specific Workspace. Typically, this is the person who created the Organization or Workspace.

  • Full control over settings and structure.

  • Can assign Admins, Members, and Guests.

  • Responsible for the overall organization or workspace management.

Admin

Admins have full access to the Organization or Workspace they belong to. Their level of access depends on whether they are assigned at the Organization level or within a specific Workspace.

  • Organization Admins have full access to all Workspaces within the Organization.

  • Workspace Admins have full control over their assigned Workspace but may not have access to other Workspaces within the Organization.

Member

Members are collaborators who belong to the Organization and participate in Workspaces. However, they do not have administrative privileges.

  • Can access and contribute to Workspaces they are added to.

  • Cannot modify administrative settings.

  • Have access to files and collaboration features within their assigned Workspaces.

Guest

Guests are external collaborators who are invited to a specific Workspace. They do not belong to the Organization and have limited access.

  • Can interact with files and collaborate within their assigned Workspaces.

  • Cannot access other areas of the Organization.

  • Do not have administrative privileges.

Key Notes

  • Guests are not Organization members; they are invited to specific Workspaces.

  • Admins at the Organization level have access to all Workspaces.

  • Admins at the Workspace level may not have access to all Workspaces within the Organization.

Understanding Share Permissions

Each Share in a Workspace has the option to be publicly available. This means that anyone with the URL to that Share may access it. Shares can be configured in three different modes:

  • Exchange – Those with the Share's URL can both upload and download content.

  • Receive – Those with the Share's URL can only upload content.

  • Send – Those with the Share's URL can only download content.

Additionally, instead of being publicly available, a Share may also be limited to specific collaborators, anyone within the Organization, or anyone within a specific Workspace. This ensures that only the intended audience has access to shared content while maintaining security and control over file distribution.

By setting the appropriate Share permissions, teams can control how external collaborators interact with shared content while maintaining security and accessibility.

Understanding these roles and their permissions ensures that teams can collaborate effectively while maintaining control over their Organization’s structure and security.
